BATTECH is the reference center to cover all the R&D&I of the battery ecosystem of southern Europe, which covers the research, development and innovation of the entire value chain of the next generation of cells and electric batteries for the markets for electric mobility, renewable energies and capital goods promoted by Eurecat and IREC.
BATTECH is part of the concept of sustainable mobility, with special attention to the study of new energy storage formulas to pave the way for the introduction of the electric vehicle, both in the automotive sector and point manufacturers recharging, among others. The initiative is also in line with the Paris Agreement, which sets a 40 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 through the development of more energy-efficient, efficient and sustainable batteries for electric vehicles. The initiative also contributes to the New Industrial Strategy for Europe, the Circular Economy Action Plan and the Regulatory Framework for Sustainable Batteries, which are part of the key actions of the European Green Deal.

A joint research unit

BATTECH is an initiative promoted by IREC, the Energy Research Institute of Catalonia and the Eurecat technology center, which will establish a joint research, development, testing and innovation unit specializing in the field of batteries, with the aim of improving the transfer of knowledge to industry in this area, from a perspective focused on the circular economy and the sustainability of the batteries of the future.

Eurecat is the leading technology center in Catalonia and the second largest private research organization in southern Europe. Eurecat brings together more than 750 professionals, and serves more than 1,700 companies, participates in more than 200 national and international R & D projects of high strategic value and has 88 patents and 7 spin-offs .

Eurecat participates in the joint unit through different research units of the center that offers expertise in the modeling and testing of cells and batteries, as well as in life cycle analysis and in the recycling and recovery of materials. Also in terms of eco-design and advanced manufacturing processes, improvement of battery management and control systems and their integration into devices, vehicles and the electricity grid.
