Manufacturing new generations of solid-state and high energy density batteries (generation 4b) for mass production

New solid-state battery (SSB) generations are needed today along with a new industry value chain in Europe to market them. Hence developing and rolling out new manufacturing technologies which enable SSB mass production is pivotal.

Nevertheless, it is also crucial to develop next solid-state battery generations with innovative and scalable manufacturing techniques to fast-track cost reduction, energy savings, and enhanced safety and enable their implementation in commercial applications.

Consequently the ADVAGEN project is to develop a novel lithium metal (LiM) battery cell technology based on high performing hybrid solid-state electrolyte (oxide-sulphide based) which will be safer and more reliable.

The idea is to gain a technological advantage in the current world market, especially with respect to Asian competitors. This will sustainably strengthen the EU as a technological and manufacturing leader in batteries as specified in the ERTRAC electrification roadmap and SET-Plan Action Point-7.
