Manufacturing cobalt-free high energy density batteries (generation 3b) to increase their density and power

Addressing electromobility applications, especially electric cars, buses and trucks, the EU-funded IntelLiGent project is to develop and demonstrate European generation 3b high-voltage lithium-ion batteries with higher energy density, faster charging and longer life cycles.

The project seeks to combine high voltage Co-free cathodes with high capacity silicon-graphite anodes to ramp up energy and power densities. As an evolution of existing chemistries, the manufacturing processes are compatible with those currently used in the trade, so the project aims to give a direct boost to the European battery value chain by enabling world-leading battery technologies with optimised manufacturing methods.

Plus IntelLigent will also explore the production of materials and processing routes which substantially reduce manufacturing costs and environmental footprint.
