Large-scale manufacturing of generation 4b solid-state battery (SSB) cells and modules
The purpose of the SPINMATE project is to demonstrate a scalable, sustainable, safe, and cost-effective digital-driven proof-of-concept pilot line at Technology Readiness Level 6 as a first step towards large-scale manufacturing of generation 4b solid-state battery (SSB) cells and modules to support the electrification of the automotive industry. SPINMATE addresses the development and implementation of innovative and scalable manufacturing and processing solutions.
It also involves applying new Industry 4.0 and 5.0 concepts for the digitalisation of the proof-of-concept pilot line and assembly and manufacturing processes.
SPINMATE’s Gen 4b SSB cells will create a new industry value chain in Europe for their marketing. This new generation technology will deliver:
- Enhanced energy densities, overcoming current Li-ion batteries limitations
- Improved safety for both solutions and workers
- Increased sustainable mass production
- Decreased carbon footprint and cost
The project has a total budget of around €7 million and will last for 4 years. The consortium is made up of 13 European partners including Avesta Battery & Energy Engineering, ABEE (leader), IREC, Fraunhofer, Toyota Motor and CIDETEC.
